If you have read my #18for2018, you would know that I wanted to start reading; completing at least 1 book in a month. Well, January boosted me up & I finished my book of the month, Scion Of Ikshvaku by Amish Tripathi, already. Don’t worry, I ain’t going to give you any spoilers, just my thoughts and views about the book. Let’s begin!
Firstly, I am a fan of Amish sir’s work. I remember reading the Shiva Trilogy(set of 3 books) in a month juggling with my board’s preparation( now I know why I didn’t score well there :p) simultaneously. I had my eye on this book since it was released but couldn’t get one until last month when I ordered this book. As excited I was to read it, I finished it & LOVED IT. The book is easily available on Amazon( always has books on sale).
Scion Of Ikshvaku, the first in the RAM CHANDRA SERIES, depicts the Ramayan storyline with Lord Ram as the centre. Talking about the storyline, if you think of this book as a basic story of Ramayan, then well you are right as well as wrong at the same time. The conventional mythology is given twists beautifully. Amish Sir knows how to manipulate the originals, playing with the facts and characters. I don’t know if it’s just me or anyone else also feel that he has been relating real-life situations with the ancient time scenarios( Eg. The daivi shatra is the modern age nuclear bomb and many more). Do let me know if you feel the same.
The striking features of the book are (No, they aren’t spoilers, Trust me) :
- Ram ain’t the loved and pampered kid. The royalty and nobles detest him.
- New characters are introduced and given the limelight which we haven’t heard of in the original epic.
- References to the previous books prevail. It’s okay if you haven’t read them, you won’t be missing out on anything( Just a clearer understanding).
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I have already ordered the second book of the series, Sita. Would you like to know reviews as such? Please let me know down in the comments section. Have you read the book? What are your views? Do share them with all. Haven’t read it? Well, the link is here :
